To gain genetic insights into the protein-rich microalga, the transcriptome of Arthrospira platensis was sequenced using Illumina technology and de novo assembly was carried out. Cyanobacteria are phototrophic microorganisms with diverse applications in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, health products, food and feed supplements, beauty products, biofuels, etc., Arthrospira platensis (Spirulina) is one of the nutrient-rich cyanobacteria which use CO2 as inorganic carbon source for their growth and also fix atmospheric nitrogen in the aquatic systems. Among the various biological applications of spirulina, antioxidant property has been considered as an important and potential biological activity. In this regard, we performed qRT-PCR analysis to understand the modulation of gene expression pattern.
