Radioactivity levels of 90Sr and 137Cs in seafoods collected from sea area of Fujian and associated dose assessment
收藏资源简介:
The discharge of Fukushima nuclear wastewater in August 2023 raised public concerns about seafood safety. This study systematically assessed the baseline levels of artificial radionuclides (90Sr and 137Cs) in seafood from Fujian coastal waters in 2024. Whole-sample analysis revealed activity concentrations of 90Sr and 137Cs ranging from 137Cs tends to accumulate more in edible muscle tissues, while 90Sr shows a higher propensity for enrichment in non-edible skeletal components. The 137Cs levels in Fujian seafood were comparable to those in Shandong and adjacent Chinese coastal areas but significantly lower than contamination levels near Fukushima. The estimated annual committed effective doses from dietary intake of 90Sr and 137Cs were 0.0051 μSv/a and 0.0062 μSv/a, respectively, accounting for approximately 0.25‰ of the global natural background radiation dose (2.4 mSv/a). This study provides fundamental data for evaluating the long-term impacts of Fukushima wastewater discharge on Fujian marine ecosystems and seafood safety.
