Development of microsatellite markers for Meliosma arnottiana (Sabiaceae)

In Japan, M. arnottiana subsp. oldhamii comprises two variety, var. oldhamii and var. hachijoensis and these two varieties are disjunctively distributed. Although some plant species such as Microtropis japonica and Leptopetalum strigulosum show similar disjunct distribution patterns, there are few phylogeographic studies on the species. Microsatellite markers are useful to estimate population genetic diversity and differentiation because of its high polymorphism and codominance inheritance. However, there are not such genetic markers available for M. arnottiana at present. The goals of this project are to develop polymorphic markers for M. arnottiana or congeneric species.
