Regional Environmental Assessment Area

This Regional Assessment of offshore oil and gas exploratory drilling east of Newfoundland and Labrador represents the first such assessment to be undertaken under federal impact assessment (IA) legislation in Canada. It seeks to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the federal IA process as it applies to offshore oil and gas exploratory drilling and associated activities, by both facilitating a more predictable and timely regulatory process for future drilling activities while also ensuring the protection of the environment.
