Newfoundland and Labrador Boundary

The polygon feature class was generated from a combination on open-source data provided by the Government of Canada as part of the CanVec Series mapping products project. Data from the 'Wooded Areas, Saturated Soils and Landscape in Canada - CanVec Series - Land Features (1:50,000) were used. Coastlines were extracted from the "shoreline_1.shp", the Labrador and boundary was extracted from the Administrative Splitting - CanVec Series using part of 'geopolitical_boundary1.shp' (1:1,000,000) to complete the boundary edge. The polylines were converted to polygons and a spatial join was used to the join the "island_id" from the 'shoreline_1.shp' and island names from the Canadian the 'island_2.shp'codes for the coastal island features and their names from the Canadian Geographic Name Database (CGNDB). The resulting feature is a polygon feature class with one polygon feature for the boundary of Labrador, one polygon feature for the boundary of Newfoundland and 18,910 coastal island features. Attribute table includes; feature id, island id, registered island name (english and french), geodesic area, geodesic perimeter, definition, description (preserved from 'shoreline_1.shp', mainland category (Newfoundland or Labrador) and landtype (Mainland or Island).
