Flow Rates of Selected World Rivers

Monthly river flow rate data for most of the globe except former Soviet Union countries (ds553.1) and US (ds550.1). This compilation was prepared by Byron Bodo ([e-mail]), Feb 2001; it succeeds the May 2000 update. As before, this version is a combination of datasets from UNESCO, WMO GRDC, the RIVDIS by Vorosmarty (1998), and others. The present set was derived by removing redundant gauge records, correcting ubiquitous errata in discharge data and metadata (river and gauge names, location coordinates, drainage areas), updating or replacing many records with more recently issued versions, and extending records backwards in time with historical data from other sources. Average record length is about 26.7 years. About 2/3 of the records have from 10-100+ years of data.
