ABDURAUF FITRAT'S ROLE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF UZBEK TRANSLATION STUDIES

This article analyzes the translation-related activity of Abdurauf Fitrat, a prominent representative of early twentieth-century Uzbek literary and educational thought and an ideologist of the Jadid movement. The paper examines Fitrat's translation practice, in particular his rendering of poetic fragments from “Devonu lugotit turk” into the language of his time, his approach to adapting scientific and philosophical terminology into Uzbek, and the translation strategies he applied when transforming his own Persian-language works into Turkic. Using historical-comparative and philological text analysis methods, the study identifies Fitrat's contribution to translation theory and practice. The findings show that Fitrat holds a distinctive place in the history of Uzbek translation studies not merely as a translator, but as a thinker who understood translation as an instrument of national development and scientific-language formation.
