资源简介:
The adoption of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) in India, known as the Digital Rupee or e₹, marks a significant milestone in the country's financial modernisation efforts. Launched by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Digital Rupee aims to offer a secure, sovereign-backed digital alternative to physical cash while enhancing the efficiency and transparency of monetary transactions. The CBDC pilot, which initially focused on wholesale and retail trials, has steadily gained traction, supported by major banks and an increasing number of users. Key features such as offline functionality, programmability for targeted subsidies, and integration with non-bank fintech platforms have enhanced its practical utility. The RBI is also exploring the use of CBDC for government payments and cross-border transactions, particularly for remittances. Although still at a relatively early stage compared to systems like UPI, the Digital Rupee has the potential to revolutionise India’s digital financial ecosystem by strengthening financial inclusion, reducing cash dependence, and promoting a more resilient and flexible monetary infrastructure.
