In situ sea water temperature data collected at San Pietro Island for the MedSeaPOD project (Mediterranean Sea People Observatory Data), 09/2023 - 09/2025
收藏资源简介:
This dataset contains in situ sea water temperature time-series collected in the coastal waters of San Pietro Island (Sardinia, Western Mediterranean Sea). The data were gathered as part of the MedSeaPOD (Mediterranean Sea People Observatory Data) project, an initiative aimed at monitoring coastal oceanographic parameters through citizen science methodologies. The primary goal of collecting these data is to support local coastal monitoring, complement scientific observations, and build long-term time-series of sea surface and subsurface temperatures using community-based participation. The key attributes measured in this dataset include water temperature, timestamp, spatial coordinates, and observational depth. Data collection was carried out by trained citizen science participants (e.g., local mariners, divers, and community volunteers) using calibrated temperature sensors and loggers. The raw data underwent initial processing, including formatting into standardized oceanographic tables and geographical georeferencing. Quality control (QC) procedures were applied to identify and flag outliers, missing values, sensor errors, and spatial-temporal anomalies. Limitations of the dataset include potential spatial and temporal heterogeneity typical of citizen science monitoring, as well as variations in sampling frequency. Overall data quality is considered suitable for coastal thermal monitoring, trend analysis, and public awareness initiatives.
