Search for X-ray properties of compact unidentified H.E.S.S. Galactic sources

A survey of the Galactic plane performed in 2004 with the H.E.S.S. instrumentallowed to double the number of known VHE gammaray sources. Reobservations andimprovements in the analysis sensitivity in 2005 have permitted to discover newunidentified sources. We propose to use XMMNewton to search for two of thesesources for which no obvious counterparts were found at other wavelenghts. Thesensitivity of XMMNewton above a few keV is required to detect possiblecounterparts despite the obscuration by the gas in the Galactic plane.Morphological and spectral information on the sources would help to understandthe nature and the emission mechanisms of these unidentified VHE gammaraysources. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
