The international fleet revue at the opening ceremony of the Nord-Ostsee Canal in Kiel in 1895, 23 photographs When the Nord-Ostsee Canal — the flagship construction project of the German Reich — was opened after eight years of construction by Emperor Wilhelm II on 21 June 1895, ships from 14 nations and 50 German war boats with salute shots welcomed it.
