POLLEN ANALYSIS AT FOUR SITES IN THE MICHAEL'S (CLO-CHEN-TOH) EXCHANGE, NORTHWEST NEW MEXICO

Four sites dating to the mid-1200s in the Michael's (Clo-Chen-Toh) Exchange were sampled for pollen during archaeological mitigation. The sites consist of pitstructures, masonary rooms, and jacal structures. Mealing bins and hearths were also noted as extra-mural features. These sites are located to the north of Ramah, New Mexico in a mixed conifer zone supporting ponderosa pine, pinyon pine, juniper, and oak at elevations between 7000 and 7100 feet. The study area is situated between the Continental Divide on the east and the Zuni Reservation to the west. Sampling for pollen analysis concentrated on features and locations that would provide data concerning local subsistence patterns.本研究在考古应急发掘过程中，对迈克尔（克洛-陈-托）交易点范围内4处年代为13世纪中期的遗址开展了花粉采样。该批遗址包含坑式建筑、石砌房屋与涂泥木架棚屋，同时还记录有储粮窖与灶址两类遗址外围遗迹。这批遗址位于新墨西哥州拉玛以北的混合针叶林带，海拔介于7000至7100英尺之间，区域内分布有黄松、矮松、杜松与栎树。研究区域东邻北美大陆分水岭，西接祖尼印第安保留地。本次花粉分析的采样工作重点聚焦于可提供当地生计模式相关数据的遗迹与点位。
