Data and Code for: Hidden Energy Costs of Water Scarcity Adaptation: Evidence from Agricultural Resource Transitions in Asia-Pacific Production Systems

This repository contains all scripts, processed datasets, analytical outputs, and publication-quality figures used in the study. The study investigates long-term water–energy interactions within the Rest of Asia and Pacific (WA) agricultural production hub using Environmentally Extended Multi-Regional Input–Output (EE-MRIO) analysis based on EXIOBASE 3.8.2. Particular emphasis is placed on identifying resource-substitution dynamics, emerging energy-penalty regimes, and sustainability trade-offs associated with climate adaptation. A novel cross-resource elasticity framework is developed to quantify the relationship between embodied water and energy use and to diagnose structural transitions within climate-stressed agricultural systems. The repository enables full reproduction of the trajectory analysis, elasticity calculations, sensitivity assessment, sectoral evaluation, and figure generation presented in the manuscript.
