Curly and Silver Birch Leaf Texture Dataset

Five common silver birch (Betula pendula) and seven curly birch(Betula pendula var. carelica) trees were sampled, with 17-18 leavespicked from each silver birch and 13-14 leaves from each curly birch tree.The leaves were collected in the outskirts of Petrozavodsk, Russia, in August 2025.The leaves were glued onto A3 drawing paper sheets with the leaf lower surfacefacing upwards. The specimens made in this manner were scanned with a high-resolutionEpson Expression 12000XL scanner at 2400 dpi resolution. The images of eachseparate leaf blade were extracted from the scans and then each leaf image wasconverted to monochrome. In total, 93 images of curly birch leaves and 87 images ofsilver birch leaves were obtained. After that, rectangular (413 - 865) х (403 - 765) pixelfragments of leaf venation patterns were selectively cut out of the resultant images,producing 343 images of curly birch leaf texture and 351 images for silver birch.Each file is named according to the following template – [C/P]_leafId_segmentId.png.
