2024 Community Ambassadors Program

Data Use: The Welcoming Communities and Immigrant Affairs (WCIA)'s 2024 Community Ambassador Program app was created for the 2024 Request for Proposals (RFP) to help users quickly identify areas south of I-30 with the greatest needs based on WCIA Ambassador Program criteria. This tool visualizes various socio-demographic factors influencing community needs, such as the percentage of renters, limited English proficiency, foreign-born residents, and Spanish speakers at home. By combining these factors, the app assigns a compound score to each census tract, with higher scores indicating greater need. For this RFP, vendors can refer to this map to identify areas with a score of 4 or 5 to confirm their proposals' locations of primary focus. This ensures that resources and services are directed to the communities that would benefit the most, supporting the goal of fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for all residents. Scores were calculated using various fields from the Census API, specifically the ACS 5-Year (2018-2022) estimates. Renters: 1 point is awarded if more than 15% of residents are renters. Limited English: 1 point is awarded if more than 15% of residents have limited English proficiency. Foreign-Born: 1 point is awarded if more than 15% of residents are foreign-born. Speak Spanish at Home: 1 point is awarded if 50% or more of the tract's population age 5+ speaks Spanish at home. These factors are combined to determine the final compound score assigned to each census tract.
