"Mapping of Internationalization in Primary School, 2014" is the third out of three surveys on internationalization in primary and secondary education, completed by SIU. The main objective of the surveys was to get more knowledge about how internationalization is understood and practiced in the school sector. While the two first surveys dealt with the strategies and work with internationalization in secondary schools, municipalities and counties, this survey focused on internationalization in Norwegian primary schools. The survey gives insight in how work with internationalization is organized, in addition to motivations and barriers to incorporate an international perspective with regard to overall plans and in the education itself. The dataset and the SIU report 02/2015 presents Norwegian primary schools experiences with internationalization and international cooperation. The dataset is based on a questionnaire addressed to school managements at Norwegian primary schools on how internationalization as a political priority are included in plans and teaching. This dataset can be seen in the context of the dataset: "Mapping of Internationalization in Secondary Education, 2011".
The primary schools that have chosen to work with international cooperation, emphasize that it is resource-demanding but that it provides great benefit for both teachers and students. This corresponds with the findings in Mapping of Internationalization in Secondary Education. Internationalization work is far more anchored in school owners and school managments in secondary education, than in primary schools. School owners in primary schools have less strategies and plans for internationalization work, and schools' participation in international cooperation programs are therefore lower. The survey shows that important factors to participate in international cooperation programs are involvement of the school management, previous practice and historical collaboration. Challenges for participation is often about economy, unsatifactory collaboration with school owner and time pressure.
Data about school name, organization number, district and municipality have been removed from the original dataset in accordance with the information in the questionnaire/survey.
