Shotgun Metagenomic Data of Soil Microbial Communities from a Moorhouse Blanket Bog

This dataset aims to investigate the structure and functional potential of microbial communities across peat depth and vegetation profiles in a temperate peatland ecosystem. Using shotgun metagenomic sequencing, we generated a comprehensive dataset capturing the taxonomic composition and functional potential of microbes inhabiting different peat layers. A key focus of the study is on nitrogen cycling pathways, which are central to understanding biogeochemical processes in peatlands ecosystems that play a critical role in global carbon and nitrogen dynamics. The data generated will support analyses of microbial communities structure, functional gene distribution, and the environmental drivers shaping community assembly.
