Breeding of Pyropia yezoensis Ueda

The life history of Pyropia yezoensis consistes of two generation: conchoceli and thallus. It need a long time to complete the entire cycle, especially the conchoceli stage. In that stage, the conchocelis penetrate into the shells and grow about 5-6 months to release conchospores, which develope into thalli. The long time cultivation increases the cost of manpower and resource. If the shell growth stage could be skipped, the cost would be cut and the profit would be increased. That could promote the development of P. yezoensis cultivation. The project is to isolate a new strain whose conchoceli could release conchospores without shell growth stage, and investigate the change of new strain at the molecular level. The dataset may serve as a valuable resource for molecular breeding.
