Strategic planning for Kanchanaburi Province as family sport and recreation destination

This independent study aims to develop a strategic plan to position Kanchanaburi Province as a leading destination for family-oriented sports and recreation, using a strategic foresight methodology. The methodology encompassed four phases: environmental scanning, stakeholder engagement through participatory visioning, strategic formulation using Futures Triangle and TOWS Matrix, and development of policy recommendations. Findings revealed that while Kanchanaburi possesses outstanding natural and cultural resources, it faces infrastructural and planning limitations. Stakeholder workshops produced four distinctive future visions—each focused on wellness, sustainability, inclusivity, and active living. Using the Futures Triangle, each group identified their aspirational goals, present trends, and systemic barriers. These visions were then used to develop strategic responses through the TOWS Matrix. Strategies from each group were evaluated based on alignment with community values, feasibility, and innovation. The researcher synthesized these strategies into a unified vision: “Kanchanaburi: Thailand’s Premier Family Sport Destination Promoting Wellness, Inclusivity, and Sustainable Active Living.” The study offers a replicable model for provincial development that balances nature conservation, public health, digital innovation, and inclusive recreation planning.
