Microglia represent the resident immune cells of the central nervous system. However, blood-borne monocytic cells are also able to invade the ischemic brain. In this study, we aim to characterize similarities and differences between these two cell populations using gene expression profiling. Overall design: The dataset consists of eight sorted samples, representing two groups of GFP-labeled (resident microglia) or RFP-labeled (invaded) cells isolated from mice. RNA was amplified (SuperAmpTM) prior to labeling and hybridization.
