This microorganism was isolated as part of an Environmental Sampling Research Module for Biotechnology students to screen and characterize organophosphate pesticide degrading bacteria. In addition to its activity against the organophosphate insecticide paraoxon, this strain is notable for a large complement of degradation genes and pathways targeting several high-impact xenobiotics including halogenated biphenyls, aromatic hydrocarbons, endocrine disruptors such as atrazine and bisphenol A, and trinitrotoluene.
