<p>In the formulation of the S-198 Regional Research Project "Socioeconomic dimensions of agricultural change, natural resource use, and agricultural structure" it was determined that nonfarm public view of the changes taking place in the structure of agriculture has significant public policy implications. No recent, comprehensive national studies of public attitudes towards farming and agriculture had been undertaken.... Objective 4, of the regional prokect outline identified the need to measure and analyze perceptions of agriculture held by farmers and nonfarmers. The survey objectives were identified as: 1) To assess public attitudes and understanding of farming, agricultural change, and the future of farming. 2) To examine public contact, experience, and participation in farming, agricultural education, extension programming, and the overall production and marketing system. 3) To determine public perceptions of the impact of agricultural activity.</p>
