The effect of extending supplementary allowances on sick leave: An evaluation of the ANI of 2008

This study assesses the effect of increasing the level of compensation on the use of sick leave for employees affected by ANI. It mobilises administrative data from a representative sample of around 200,000 employees followed from 2005 to 2010. The causal impact of the reform is identified by a method of difference between the evolution of the use of sick leave before and after its entry into force between employees for whom the rules on compensation have been changed (1 to 3 years of seniority) and other employees. The results indicate that ANI had no effect on the number and duration of sick leave of the employees concerned, neither in 2009 nor in 2010.
