This study was made to get an idea of post-pollination gene expression in flowers of Avicennia officinalis, a dominant mangrove species growing at Indian Sundarbans mangrove ecosystem. We have carried out gene expression studies from female reproductive parts of these flowers under four conditions based on pollination types, control condition just pre-pollination, post-autogamous pollination, post-geitenogamous pollination and post-xenogamous pollination. Our objective was to find out in which pollination system self-incompatibility is pronounced in gene expression studies, which might give an idea, whether this species prefers cross-pollination or selfing to cause successful fruit-set.
