资源简介:

Adrienne MonnierParisian bookseller, publisher, editor, and poet. She opened her bookshop, "Maison des amis des livres" , in 1915; it became a magnet for contemporary French writers such as Claudel, Larbaud, Fargue, Gide, and Valéry. Monnier encouraged Sylvia Beach to open a bookshop in 1919, which led to her acquaintance with JJ. Her literary review, Le Navire d'argent, published JJ's "From Work in Progress" (2, no. 5 [1 October 1925], 59-74). Monnier was the organizer and eventually publisher of the French translation of Ulysses, appearing first as fragments in Commerce (1, i [Summer 1924], 121-58), and then as the entire Ulysse (Paris: La Maison des Amis des Livres, Adrienne Monnier, 1929). She sided with Sylvia Beach in the rupture with JJ in the early 1930s. Following a period of serious illness, Monnier committed suicide in 1955. William Brockman
