资源简介:
Users of satellite Sea Surface Salinity (SSS) products stress the importance of temporal and spatial resolution for the study of processes especially in river plumes.
The Ocean Salinity Center of Expertise for CATDS (CATDS CEC-OS) has derived SSS maps optimized for keeping high temporal SSS variability around Greenland from SMOS and SMAP satellite data.
As for SMOS SMAP high resolution ‘HR’ product generated by CATDS CEC in tropical and sub tropical regions (Boutin et al. 2022), the Greenland HR products are built using a temporal optimal interpolation, grid node per grid node. This interpolation is done simultaneously with the estimation of the across-track SSS biases [Boutin et al., 2021], but instead of a gaussian covariance function in the temporal domain, an exponential function is used. The use of an exponential function allows an improvement of the spatial contrasts in regions with high variability. No spatial smoothing is applied on the original level 2 SSS products so that the effective spatial resolution of SSS at each grid point is close to 50km.
SMOS and SMAP Level 2 SSS entering in the temporal optimal interpolation are :
- SMOS SSS from ESA DPGS version 700
- SMAP SSS (40km products) version v5.3 provided by RSS
The products issued by this processing (version 1 HR products) have been used by Reverdin et al. (2025).
Products are delivered on a regular 0.25° grid over the period [2015-2022].
Feedbacks from users about the quality of these new experimental products are very welcome and essential for the CATDS expertise center to improve future versions.
