Special areas of conservation

Specially protected nature territories (SACs) in Latvia are geographically defined areas, which are under special national protection in order to protect and preserve the diversity of nature — rare and typical natural ecosystems, the living environment of protected species, peculiar, beautiful and characteristic landscapes, geological and geomorphological formations, dendrological plantings and grand trees, as well as areas important for the recreation, education and upbringing of the society. All information is available in digital form with connection to the Latvian coordinate system LKS-92.
