we analyzed the differential expressed genes between female and male using two couples of samples, and the background noise was eliminated using these two couples. We identified 698 of significantly differentially-expressed common transcripts between adult male and female beetles in both experiment. The genes up-regulate in female were significantly enriched in signal processing and genetic material metabolism pathways. Otherwise, the genes up-regulate in male adult were mainly enriched in the pathways of metabolism, which showed substance and energy metabolism were prevalent in male beetle. We also identified the 8 key enzymes belong to MVA pathway, which was up-regulate in male beetle of both experiment and relative to cantharidin biosynthesis. Other more, we also found that the juvenile hormone (JH) biosynthesis or degradation might be related to cantharidin biosynthesis. In addition, a significant number of transcripts obtained in this study will provide a basis for future research into biology of the blister beetle H. cichorii.
