The five afforestation types considered were plantations of <i>Populus simonii Carr</i> (PC), <i>Mongolian pine</i> (MP),<i> Siberian elm</i> (SE), <i>Caragana korshinskii Kom </i>(CK), mixed species, i.e., SE/CK, and natural grassland (NG) as the control. From January 2018 to December 2021, the soil water contents were monitored 75 times at 10-cm intervals along a 160-cm profile to explore the differences in soil water distributions and time variations among different afforestation types,
