Traumatic brain injury (TBI) can lead to long-term problems like epilepsy, memory loss, and mood disorders. This study used a rat model to find early warning signs (biomarkers) that may predict these issues and examined brain chemicals, inflammation in the brain, and immune responses in blood shortly after injury. The results indicated that changes in these markers were linked to later behavioural and seizure problems. These results suggest that brain scans and blood tests soon after TBI could help identify individuals at risk of long-term complications, allowing for earlier and more personalised treatment strategies.
