We investigated the effects of metronidazole on the structure and function of intestinal flora, and whether anthocyanins can accelerate the recovery of metronidazole induced dysbiosis. After a one-week adaptation, male C57BL/6 mice were randomized by body weight into six experimental groups. Mice in the control group were given normal drinking water, and mice in the other five groups were given metronidazole (1 mg per mL) in drinking water for one week. After this modelling period, the 2-day anthocyanin restoration group and the 5-day anthocyanin restoration group received bilberry anthocyanin extracts (50 mg per kg body weight) via oral gavage every day, while the 2-day natural restoration group and the 5-day natural restoration group received isovolumetric sterile water. We found that anthocyanins could accelerate the recovery of dysbiosis caused by metronidazole.
