Geological Map of the Federal Republic of Germany 1:200,000 (GÜK200) — CC 3110 Bremerhaven

The North German Lowlands with the Jadebusen in the northeast and East Friesland in the northwest is depicted on Blatt Bremerhaven. The card cut-out is entirely taken by quaternary locking sediments. The glacial deposits of the Elster, Saale and Vistula cold days include glacial basin sludge, loam/mergel of the base moraine, fluviatile and glazifluviatile sands and gravel as well as Aeolian flight sands. In the lowlands and in the coastal area, the glacial relics are superimposed by holocene sediments, e.g. from marin-brackish deposits of the cotton and marsh areas, peat of the high and low moorlands or fluviatile Auesediments. Prequarter substrate does not come to light due to the enormous thickness of the Cenozoic top layer. In addition to the legend, which informs about the age, petrography and genesis of the depicted units, a geological section provides insights into the structure of the subsurface. In the northwest-southeast profile, the thickness of the Cenozoic sediment ceiling (up to 1 000 m depth) and the penetration of Zechstein salts (salt sticks Bedekaspel, Strackholt, Zwischenahn and Sagermer) becomes apparent. The location and position of the salt structures are also marked by name in the geological map.
