Non-Indigenous Canadians’ and Americans' moral expectations of Indigenous peoples

Non-Indigenous Canadian and American respondents recruited from Amazon’s MTurk platform read a brief informational passage about the Indian Residential School (IRS) system followed by a statement highlighting either the strength (condition 1) or vulnerability (condition 2) of Indigenous peoples, after which participants wrote about the meaning derived from the IRSs for Indigenous peoples. Respondents then completed survey measures assessing perceived benefit-finding for victims of the IRSs, perceived moral obligations for Indigenous peoples in light of historical victimization, perceived continued victimization of Indigenous peoples, and modern racism. Basic demographic information was also collected.
