Oil and gas wells and IPPU (Industrial Processes and Produce Use) emissions make up almost 8% (339,180 mt CO2e) of Boulder County’s greenhouse gas emissions. These industrial sectors include any emissions resulting from industrial processes within the County’s borders, refrigerant leaks, oil wells, and oil production. Of these sources, IPPU comprises the largest share at 85% and includes emissions from the cement manufacturing plan outside Lyons. In Boulder County, most oil wells are located in unincorporated Boulder County with a few operating in Erie and Lafayette. Oil production produces far fewer emissions than the oil wells themselves.
