Genomic analyses reveal presence of extensively drug-resistant Salmonellaenterica serovars isolated from clinical samplesin Guizhou province, China, 2019-2023

The emergence of extensively drug-resistant (XDR) <i>Salmonella</i> in human represents a serious public health and therapeutic challenge. Our study presents the first data on the WGS-based characterization of XDR <i>Salmonella</i><i> </i>isolates from humans between 2019 and 2023 in Guizhou province, China. Meanwhile, XDR <i>Salmonella </i>isolates carried multiple ARGs on plasmids, which could promote the acquisition and dissemination of ARGs. Our findings offer significant biological insights into XDR <i>Salmonella</i> resistance mechanisms, and showed that implementing continuous dynamic surveillance will enhance our understanding of the epidemiology of XDR <i>Salmonella</i> in this region and help public health officials identify emerging trends and potential threats.
