Permafrost-affected soils are harsh habitats in which a varied and vigorous microbial population thrives. The high-altitude permafrost affected soil is a unique and important cryo-ecosystem. However, its microbiology remains largely unexplored. It represents a unique reservoir for microbial communities with adaptability to harsh environmental conditions.
