Overture Maps - Addresses

**Overview**
The Overture Maps addresses theme is a compilation of open address datasets usually published by local authorized sources. In our initial release, we use the datasets that are collected and distributed by OpenAddresses.

The initial schema for addresses is fairly simple and is expected to expand into more complex addressing schemes.

Addresses are geographic points used for locating businesses and individuals. The rules, fields, and fieldnames of an address can vary extensively between locations. Overture Maps uses a simplified schema to capture worldwide address points. This initial schema is largely based on the OpenAddresses (www.openaddresses.io) project. The address schema allows up to 5 "admin levels". Rather than have field names that apply across all countries, we provide an array called "address_levels" containing the necessary administrative levels for an address.

Founded in 2022 under the Joint Development Foundation, Overture Maps Foundation (Overture Maps) is dedicated to the development of reliable, easy-to-use, and interoperable open map data that will power current and next-generation map products. We build this data through a collaborative process that combines technology, data, and support from a wide range of companies. Map data are assembled from multiple sources including members, civic organizations, and open data sources.

Overture's data themes and schema are licensed under CC-BY 4.0. GERS IDs are licensed under CDLA Permissive v 2.0. Data associated with the themes through GERS can carry different licenses. However, if the data associated though GERS with an ODbL licensed theme constitutes a derivative dataset, it must be licensed under ODbL. **Use cases**
Contact Data Enrichment: Addresses are a primary component of high-accuracy geocoding services (i.e. converting text for an address to a complete address with a location).
Users are also enabled to confirming that an address exists within a known list of addresses.

Mapping and Geocoding: Addresses may be displayed on the map for reference purposes.
