We used a high throughput, culture-independent approach by sequencing of the ribosomal internal transcribed sequences (ITS) on the Illumina MiSeq platform, using PCR primers containing 5.8S-Fun and ITS4-Fun to target ITS2, in samples collected from subjects with alcohol use disorder (AUD) before and after 2 weeks of alcohol abstinence and healthy controls to determine the association of members of the intestinal fungal mycobiome and liver health.
