PV NGC253 is a closeby prototypical starburst galaxy. In Xrays, besidesemission from several point sources in disk and halo, it shows diffuse emissionfrom the nucleus, plume, disk and halo. The XMM PV observation will demonstratethe capabilities of the EPIC instruments, to spatially separate and characterizethe different emission components by their spectra and time variability.
