资源简介:
Nigeria as one of the leading players in African aquaculture has been tapping the opportunities provided from aquaculture in meeting her food and nutrition security needs. In addition, aquaculture have serves as a veritable source of employment and livelihood enhancement in Nigeria. With current efforts at intensifying the food production systems in Nigeria for improved livelihood and food and nutrition security, constraints to aquaculture production especially in area of fish feed development need to be well addressed. It worthy to note that achieving the highest profit percentage with the lowest cost percentage is critical to the growth of any industry. In the aquaculture industry, the prices of certain feed ingredients are among the major challenges affecting the industry’s success or failure.A critical ingredient in aquafeed is Fishmeal (FM) as its the costliest and imported in Nigeria. This is due to its highly palatable dietary protein source in aquafeed as it contains balanced amino acids, essential n-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. Efforts is now tailored towards finding a cost effective and cheaper local alternative to the FM. The FOM, a byproduct of fish processing activities could be a good alternative to fish meal. Therefore, there is need to develop knowledge base on the best ways of utilizing FOM as replacement for FM in diets of two most commonly cultured fish species (Oreochromis niloticus and Clarias gariepinus) in Nige
