Diatoms are of significance in the marine ecosystem, playing a pivotal role in the sustenance of marine life and the transfer of carbon from the surface ocean to deeper waters. Despite the extensive body of literature addressing the impact of elevated CO2 levels of various marine diatoms across both short-term and long-term adaptation scales, the molecular mechanisms underlying the response of chitin metabolism to ocean acidification remain largely unexplored. Here, we performed transcriptomics and metabolomics analyses, along with a physiological trait analysis, on the marine diatom Thalassiosira weissflogii adapted for 40 days to high CO2 conditions.
