Maternal genomic variability of the wild boar (Sus scrofa) in West-Russia, Europe and North-Africa

Due to the fact that genetic analysis of the whole mtDNA has been an efficient and widely used tool in understanding evolution and diversity of several animal species, we present a large-scale study on geographic variation in the complete mtDNA genomes of wild boars from Russia (including West Siberia and Eastern Caucasus), Europe, and North-Africa. Our results provide insights into the contemporary genetic structure and past demographic processes of wild boar populations under the effects of glaciations and possible human manipulations.
