Genetic identification of victims from mass graves of the Spanish CIvil War and dictatorship using massively parallel sequencing

The aim of this study is the genetic identification of the Spanish Civil War victims through kinship analysis of post-mortem remains with alleged relatives. To achieve identification, we genotype sequence-based Short Tandem Repeat (STR) andidentity Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (iSNPs) using massively parallel sequencing (MPS). This technolgy provides sequence information on the repeat motif and/or the flanking regions, allowing the detection of new variants in some cases.
