Permeability

Permeability presents a greatly simplified picture of the permeability of the soil. The product is based on a reclassification of the basic layer in the Soils 1:25 000-1:100 000 data set to four classes of permeability: low, medium, high or unassessed permeability. The classification is based on the grain size of the soil type in the foundation layer. However, the permeability of a soil type depends not only on grain size but also, for example, on terrain location, saturation level, groundwater level and the viscosity of the emitted substance, etc. The product does not take this into account, nor does it take into account any surface layers or underlying layers. Among other things, the product is intended to be used as a first basis for assessing the risk of spreading pollutants from accidents. In view of any deficiencies in the documentation, a site-specific assessment must always be carried out in the terrain.
