Human shield: a context-dependent strategy of roe deer in an alpine human-dominated landscape.

This dataset contains:
i) the GPS locations of 45 adult roe deer monitored in three Alpine study areas (France, Slovenia and Italy), representing three different landscape-of-fear contexts, during the hunting season (September–December);
ii) the explanatory variables used to build the Resource Selection Functions (RSFs), including habitat type, tree cover, distance to buildings, distance to forest edge, distance to paths, distance to roads, ruggedness, light pollution (used as an index of urbanization), spatial hunting risk, and temporal variables such as daytime vs night-time classification used to compare diel habitat selection. The dataset was used in the analyses of the scientific paper: “Diel habitat selection of roe deer in the Alps reveals a human shield against hunters” (currently under revision).
