Metropolitan Natural Park Plot Metro 1 Crown Map - 2024

English This layer features the crown map of the Metro 1 plot in the Metropolitan Natural Park (PNM) for 2024. The PNM is a national park established under Law 8 on July 5, 1985. Spanning an area of 232 hectares it features tropical dry forest and tropical rain forests, and is located within Panama City. Within this park lies the Metro 1 plot, a research site established by the ForestGeo network in 2020 with dimensions of 100 x 100 meters. This plot has been sampled five times by the ForestGeo network, with all trees above 1cm DBH tagged and measured annually. The most dominant species within the plot is Castilla elastica, and the plot contains a total of 46 species of woody plants. The crown map is provided as a GeoDataFrame in .shp format with the geometric coordinate reference system UTM 17N (EPSG:32617). Each row corresponds to a geometry representing the vertically projected area that each individual tree occupies at the top of the canopy. The geometries were delineated and validated in the field using a canopy crane. Key features recorded during validation include crown completeness, tree crown liana load, crown illumination, flowering (boolean), senescent leaves (boolean), fruiting (boolean), and leaf cover percentage of the crown. Similarly, the liana map contains geometries for clearly visible patches of lianas at the top of the canopy, with associated variables recorded for each patch. Due to the co-occurrence of liana species in the canopy, patches may represent multiple species. Con una extensión de 232 hectáreas, alberga bosque seco tropical y bosque tropical lluvioso, y está ubicado dentro de la Ciudad de Panamá. Dentro de este parque se encuentra la parcela Metro 1, un sitio de investigación establecido por la red ForestGeo en 2020 con dimensiones de 100 x 100 metros. Esta parcela ha sido muestreada cinco veces por la red ForestGeo, etiquetando y midiendo anualmente todos los árboles con un DAP superior a 1cm. La especie dominante en la parcela es Castilla elastica, y la parcela contiene un total de 46 especies de plantas leñosas.
