Starvation resistance of mud fiddler crabs, Minuca pugnax, from Georgia to New Hampshire

The fiddler crab, Minuca pugnax, has expanded its range into the Gulf of Maine as a result of ocean warming. It is a burrowing crab that lives in salt marshes. Here, we examined the starvation resistance of crabs from their expanded vs. historical range. From 15 August to 19 September 2017, fiddler crabs were collected from ten marshes. Transported to Virginia Institute of Marine Science for a feeding experiment. The experiment was ended on 3/23/2020 due to COVID.
