DFO-NL Atlantic Cod Telemetry

This is the OBIS extraction of the Ocean Tracking Network and Fisheries and Oceans Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Region (DFO-NFLD) DFO-NL Atlantic Cod Telemetry, consisting of the release tagging metadata, i.e. the location and date when the tagged animal was released, and summarized detection events of tagged individuals.
If readers are interested in the source dataset they may also inquire with the project PIs as listed here or on the OTN web site (https://members.oceantrack.org/project?ccode=NLCOD).Abstract:Fisheries and Oceans Canada Science Branch in Newfoundland and Labrador maintain a longterm acoustic telemetry program for Atlantic Cod. This program investigates movement, survival, and stock mixing between Northern Cod (NAFO Div 2J3KL) and 3Ps Cod (NAFO Sub Div 3Ps). Atlantic cod are implanted with VEMCO-Innovasea V13 or V16 transmitters. Length and capture metadata have been recorded for each fish throughout the timeseries. Finclips for genomic research have been taken from tagged fish since 2019. In addition to tagging, this program maintains an array of 100+ receivers, deployed inshore around the island of Newfoundland and offshore in the Halibut Channel.
