Detection of fish and mussel DNA in lake sediment cores

The aim of this study was to assess how within-lake location, target species, molecular method, and sediment age affects the detection of fish and mussel sedimentary DNA in a historical sediment archive from a shallow, lowland lake. To the best of our knowledge, our study is the first to use metabarcoding to explore historical fish communities.
