CPPE - 5 (Medical Personal Protective Equipment) is a new challenging dataset with the goal to allow the study of subordinate categorization of medical personal protective equipments, which is not possible with other popular data sets that focus on broad level categories. The dataset includes high-quality images and annotations, with real-life images and a majority of non-iconic images, making it suitable for deployment in real-world environments. The dataset supports the task of object detection, with an active leaderboard and metrics based on COCO detection evaluation criteria. The data is split into a training set of 1000 images and a test set of 29 images. The images were collected from Flickr and Google Images, and the annotations were crowdsourced using an open-source tool. The dataset aims to facilitate research and use in applications at multiple public places to autonomously identify if a PPE kit has been worn and which part of the PPE kit has been worn.
